Serving the Community

St. Michael’s is growing steadily in caring for the community around us. In the past decade we have collected nearly three tons of staples for the local food bank, and every month we cook and serve a homemade dinner for dozens of hungry neighbors. We serve as an emergency shelter for the American Red Cross, and with our new building we stand ready to extend a roof over the heads of even more disaster victims.

In 2015, St. Michael’s raised and distributed more than $10,000 for local and regional charities. Semiannual fundraisers generate more than $2,000 per year for local charities, and each summer our teens go on mission to the Lillian Vallely School in Blackfoot, Idaho. Recently, our teens shared their tech savvy with those who were stymied by new mobile devices, and our outreach and fellowship leaders teamed up on a Water to Wine fundraiser that earned more than $5,000 for Episcopal Relief and Development, to dig a freshwater well in an impoverished village. The young adults of the parish organized a Habitat for Humanity team for peers throughout the diocese. St. Michael’s also continues annually with its December Sing & Play Along Messiah that benefits Issaquah Community Services. More than $12,500 has been raised by this benefit since its start in 2009.
