Wednesday Evenings

Resuming January 8, 2020

About the Service
The Wednesday Evening Contemplative Prayer Service is quiet, intimate, and restorative. It lasts about 35 minutes and uses widely expansive language taken from the Church of England and American Book of Common Prayer .

The service begins with the offering of incense followed by the singing of an evening hymn and the reading of Holy Scripture. This is followed by five minutes of profound, silent meditation begun and ended by the ringing of a bell. Prayers for the world, nation, and local community are offered along with expressions of need and concern for those gathered. This is followed by prayers and anointing for healing. During this time, those present are invited to light a prayer candle, pray, and sing a simple Taizé-style chant. The service concludes with a celebration of the Holy Communion.

Additional Narrative about the Service  Silence and contemplation are integral parts of this service. Our lighting is subdued and candles add warmth and light to our worship service. Those who attend the service have described it as powerful and restorative with an open and deeply sacred feeling. Those who attend Saint Michael’s comment that this service is one they feel comfortable inviting friends and family from outside the church to attend.
