Close the Gap Campaign

May 19, 2019

Dear Friends,

Over the past decade, the congregation of St. Michael and All Angels has worked to create a vision for our parish and implement changes that will help us meet that vision. We started with the idea of “Bringing faith to life in the heart of Issaquah” and have broadened our vision to “Illuminating Christ’s love on the Eastside!

We, as a community of faith, decided that the St. Michael’s needed to expand, and with contributions and hard work from all, were able to achieve the initial goal. The new parking lot was the last part of our expansion project, and the benefits of this investment are already obvious – we now have a safe, well-lit space and, most importantly, we are able to welcome more people to our church. For example, we accommodated 57 cars at the early Easter service and over 70 cars at the later service when we were previously limited to 51 cars.

St. Michael’s now has one piece of this decade-long process to achieve – repay the Diocesan loan for the new parking lot.

Excellent planning and management have produced what our Parish needs, but now we must “close the gap” between what has been pledged and what is required. After prayerful consideration, the Vestry is coming to you, the people of St. Michael’s, to ask you to make a financial commitment to complete the project.

We, as your Vestry, do not take this request lightly – this congregation has given so much time and talent to the church. However, we are convinced that the responsible action is to close out our loan, so that the parish can move forward with its vision of St. Michael’s.

The funding gap that we need to close is significant, but collectively achievable. As the project neared completion in April and the final costs became clear, the Vestry identified that an additional $193,789 in donations or pledges would be required above those already committed. Subsequent pledges and donations have contributed $65,000 toward this total and we now calculate that an additional $128,729 is required to retire the loan as scheduled in 2023.

We hope that the Q&A document provides answers to many of your questions and the Pledge Card provides details of your options to contribute. If you have additional comments, questions, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact any Vestry member.

We request return of your donation/pledge commitment no later than June 4, 2019.

You will be enriched in every way for your great generosity, which will produce thanksgiving to God through us; for the rendering of this ministry not only supplies the needs of the saints but also overflows with many thanksgivings to God.  —2 Corinthians 9:11-12
